Fed: Reith goes from children overboard to European bank
The federal opposition has attacked the government's backing of PETER REITH as Australia'srepresentative on the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The former Defence minister will be paid around $250,000 for the job that's based in London.
Last year a Senate inquiry found Mr REITH lied to the Australian public over the childrenoverboard affair.
The government says Mr REITH got the job over almost 50 other hopefuls and made a shortlistof eight that included other former government MPs.
Opposition Leader SIMON CREAN says the appointment is ridiculous.
He says Mr REITH can't be trusted and shouldn't be appointed to anything by the currentgovernment.
And Labor's treasury spokesman BOB MCMULLAN says the job is in return for Mr REITH'Ssilence during the children overboard inquiry.
