NSW: Thousands rally over Badgerys on eve of govt meeting

Thousands of protesters have called on the federal government to show real guts by dropping
its plan for a second Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek.

The rally at Fairfield, in Sydney's west, has attracted some 1,500 people and is part of a
series of ongoing anti-Badgerys protests.

It comes as the federal government faces renewed pressure to dump its airport plans at this
week's meeting of coalition MPs.

The Tuesday cabinet meeting is the first since the winter break and the release of an
environmental impact statement which found the area was the best site for a second airport.

The Western Sydney Alliance, which includes 10 affected-council areas, has arranged a
series of anti-Badgerys protests, opposing the $9 billion second airport proposal.

NSW Liberal backbencher KERRY BARTLETT last week said he would raise opposition to the
Badgerys plan at Tuesday's cabinet meeting.

Last month, Transport Minister JOHN ANDERSON said a decision should be made by the end of
the year on the airport issue, which has plagued successive Labor and coalition governments.

Mr EZZY says the alliance plans another rally in Campbelltown next week.
