Slovak government seeks confidence vote in parliament

Slovakia's government decided Friday to seek a confidence vote in parliament in a show of unity after a recent coalition crisis threatened to break up the Cabinet

The three coalition parties have a total of 85 deputies in the 150-seat Slovak legislature and Prime Minister Robert Fico said he was confident the vote will be successful. It will be linked to a vote on the 2008 draft budget and is expected to take place Tuesday, officials said.

"We need to show the public, the voters, that the Slovak government has the full support of the parliament," Fico said after an emergency session of the government.
