WA: Backing for missile shield could spark arms race, says Labor

PERTH, Jan 13 AAP - Any Australian involvement in America's Son of Star Wars missile
defence system could proliferate an arms race in the Pacific region, opposition defence
spokesman Chris Evans said today.

Following Defence Minister Robert Hill's announcement that US Missile Defence Agency
officials were meeting with Australian government officials in Sydney, Senator Evans said
the Americans were looking for political, not practical support for the controversial
