NSW: Talks continue with airline over unfair dismissal

Ansett and union officials are continuing private talks over the sacking of an employee
which has almost led to industrial action.

About 240 check-in and dispatch staff at Ansett's Sydney domestic terminal had planned
to walk off the job this afternoon in support of the sacked worker.

Australian Services Union organiser TED TAMPLIN says the worker had been stood down
in December over allegations he had assaulted a pilot.

Ansett had been preparing to seek a Supreme Court injunction to stop the industrial
action, but the ASU yesterday agreed to call off the action after a phone hook-up with
Ansett management.

Mr TAMPLIN says further talks are being held with Ansett and a number of proposals
are being discussed to resolve the dispute.

He says talks will continue with Ansett over the next few days in an attempt to reinstate
the worker.
